The word Daghestan literally means “Land of Mountains” because mountains occupy more than half of the territory of Daghestan. Geographically and administratively, Daghestan is a component part of the Russian Federation. It is situated in the North Caucasus. The population of Daghestan is about 2000000 Daghestan is the most multinational republic of the Russian Federation. There live more than 33 indigenous nationalities and ethnic groups. The multinational republic of Daghestan formed on the basis of equality and unity of its peoples is a sovereign, indivisible and democratic state within the Russian Federation. Daghestan is a presidential republic. The President of the republic of Daghestan heads the executive power of the Republic. A citizen of the Russian Federation not younger than 30 years of age may be President of the republic of Daghestan. One and the same person can not hold the office of the President for more than two terms. The National Assembly is the Parliament of the republic. It is the highest representative and legislative body of state authority of Daghestan. It consists of 90 deputes elected by direct universal suffrage by secret ballot. The National Assembly Is elected for a term of 5 years. Any citizen of Daghestan who has reached the age of 21 and has the right to take part in the elections may be elected a deputy to the National Assembly. The Council of Ministers, ie. the Government of Daghestan, is the highest executive and administrative body of the state authority of the Republic. Justice in the Republic of Daghestan is administered only by the courts, which exercise judicial authority by means of constitutional, civil, administrative, and criminal proceedings. The judicial system of the Republic of Daghestan consists of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Court of Arbitration of the Republic of Daghestan and district and city court. The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Daghestan consisting of five judges is the highest court of defense of the constitutional system. Правосудие в Республике Дагестан осуществляется только судами, которые осуществляют судебную власть посредством конституционного, гражданского, административного и уголовного судопроизводства. Судебная система Республики Дагестан состоит из Конституционного Суда, Верховного Суда и Арбитражного Суда Республики Дагестан и районного и городского суда. Конституционный Суд Республики Дагестан в составе пяти судей является высшим судебным органом защиты конституционного строя. Верховный Суд Республики Дагестан является высшим судом по гражданским, уголовным, административным и иным делам, подсудным судам общей юрисдикции. Арбитражный Суд Республики Дагестан является высшей судебной инстанцией по разрешению экономических споров и иных дел, рассматриваемых арбитражными судами |
