Более того, у него нет друзей, он привык рассчитывать только на себя, а лучшим другом для него является боксерская груша. Его сложно застать где-то помимо спортивного зала. Иии… - Подожди, прислушайся, что это за звук? Классическая музыка или мне кажется? - Нет, ты прав, звук идет из его комнаты, пойдем посмотрим, что там происходит. Эрик и Марта на цыпочках приблизились к комнате Марка, и уткнулись в щели, сквозь которые была видна лишь половина его комнаты. На кровати вперемешку лежали книги по этикету и спортивная форма. А сам Марк кружился по комнате, разучивая танец, который принято танцевать в высших слоях. Сейчас он был сам на себя не похож. - Марта, ты же тоже это видишь? - Да, кажется, я поняла в чем дело. Однажды вечером, когда я возвращалась из гостей, я увидела леди Вирджинию и человека похожего на Марка, но мне тогда показалась, что я ошиблась, ведь такая ситуация была просто невероятной, но похоже это действительно был он. Ну так вот, они прогуливались по набережной и о чем-то разговаривали. Знаешь, он смотрел на нее такими влюбленными глазами словно ребенок смотрит на леденец на витрине магазина. Эрик, кажется наш братец влюбился и сейчас делает все, чтобы держаться с ней наравне. И наша задача помочь ему в этом. Тогда я за танцы, а ты за этикет, устроим братику личную жизнь! He was in a good humour this morning, and now his eyes are shooting lightning, I wanted to talk to him, but he ignored me, as if I was not a sister to him, but a floor lamp. Eric, it seems our brother has fallen in love and is now doing everything to keep up with her. And our task is to help him in this. You travel the streets, and a finger beckons to you, a handkerchief is dropped for you, a brick is dropped upon you, the elevator cable or your bank breaks, a table d'hote or your wife disagrees with you, and Fate tosses you about like cork crumbs in wine opened by an un-feed waiter. The City is a sprightly youngster, and you are red paint upon its toy, and you get licked off. 5 John Hopkins sought to inject a few raisins of conversation into the tasteless dough of existence. Think and say why the authour used it in the story. Thus, in the story “The Complete Life of John Hopkins”, O’Henry uses an oxymoron to intensify Freshmayer’s pessimism: «Joy surged in Freshmayer's heart. Here was corroboration of his belief that the world was rotten and man a peripatetic evil» The combination of the two contradictory terms creates ironic effect as only an extremely pessimistic person could be so content to know that the world was rotten and man a peripatetic evil. |
