Вариант 3.

Сейчас Вы будете выполнять задания по аудированию. Каждый текст прозвучит 2 раза. После первого и второго прослушиваний у Вас будет время для выполнения и проверки заданий. Все паузы включены в аудиозапись. Остановка и повторное воспроизведение аудиозаписи не предусмотрены.

Задание 1.

Вы услышите четыре коротких диалога, обозначенных буквами A, B, C, D. Установите соответствие между диалогами и местами, где они происходят: к каждому диалогу подберите соответствующее место действия, обозначенное цифрами. Используйте каждое место действия из списка 1-5 только один раз. В задании есть одно лишнее место действия. Запишите в таблицу выбранные цифры под соответствующими буквами. У вас есть 20 секунд, чтобы ознакомиться с заданием.

Dialogue A.

A:

I can’t see any vegetarian dishes here

B:

They’re on pages 2 and 3. Are you a strict vegetarian?

A:

N-no. I just avoid meat, chicken, fish and eggs…

B:

In other words, all foods rich in vitamins and proteins. What do you eat then?

A:

Oh, there are lots of healthу and tasty foods left. And here is my first choice – grilled aubergine with tomatoes and onions. Yummy! I can never cook it properly at home. It always gets burnt.

B:

Well, fine. But you don’t mind if I have fish, do you?

A:

No. Whatever you like.

Dialogue B.

A:

It’s pretty exhausting, isn’t it? I come here three times a week, and you?

B:

It depends. I don’t take all this sports stuff too seriously. I come when I feel like exercising.

A:

You’re lucky. I have to exercise and diet to keep fit. Every Sunday I design a menu for the next week. The main point is to make it healthy and not to exceed the calorie limit. I try to avoid chips and fizzy drinks.

B:

I see. Is it ok if we discuss your diet later? It’s not a good idea to talk when you’re on a treadmill.

A:

Ok, ok. I just wanted to relax a bit. Just three minutes more here and I’m going to use the exercise bike

Dialogue C.

A:

What’s for lunch? I’m starving, aren’t you?

B:

No, I don’t think I’m hungry. We only had breakfast three hours ago.

A:

Considering what kind of breakfast it was, I could have eaten lunch right after it! A handful of cornflakes with skimmed milk and a coffee without sugar. What a fantastic meal!

B:

But it was health! And it contained the exact number of calories the doctor recommends for a person of your age and build.

A:

I don’t care what the doctor says. Look, there’s nothing in the fridge except a couple of eggs and the milk left from our breakfast.

B:

Ok, we can have lunch somewhere in the city if you want.

Dialogue D.

A:

Take a seat, please, and explain what the problem is.

B:

Well, it’s about an eating disorder actually…

A:

An eating disorder? But you look quite healthy…

B:

Oh, it’s not about me! It’s about my daughter. She’s got a stupid idea that she’s too fat, and she’s practically stopped eating.

A:

Oh.

B:

Yes. She counts calories, diets, and is getting skinny and weak. She refuses to come here and I just need your advice on how to deal with the situation.

You have 20 seconds to complete the task. (Pause 20 seconds.)

Speaker A.

I believe dinosaurs died out just because they couldn’t adapt to the changing situation. Something happened to the climate, it got colder and the vegetation reduced. You’ve heard about it, haven’t you? Dinosaurs, creatures with large bodies and tiny brains, weren’t able to adapt. They neither changed their diet nor learnt new skills for finding food. They didn’t migrate to somewhere else. That’s why they died out. The law of nature says it’s not the largest animal that survives, but the animal that can quickly adapt… and develop in accordance with the changing environment.

Speaker B.

It was a nice day. We were dining out in a street café when people around us started to point to something behind us. We turned back and saw huge prehistoric animals there. They were dinosaurs or something like that. And they were huge. They were walking down the street accompanied by musicians and crowds of children. From time to time they bent down to pedestrians and made threatening noises. Nobody got scared of course. People smiled and tried to stroke them.

Speaker C.

It was a great trip. I’ve always been interested in watching animals in the wild and that was a great opportunity. We were sitting on top of a hill, which looked like a huge dinosaur from a distance. We were hiding under a special shelter made of grass and tree branches. It made us invisible to the animals but we, on the other hand, could see them very well, with binoculars and even without them. Deer, antelopes and wild goats are very cautious animals but we tried to make no noise, and the wind blew in the opposite direction so they could not smell us.

Speaker D.

I don’t believe in devils, ancient dinosaurs living in Scottish lakes and other nonsense. But last night I felt really scared when something huge appeared in my backyard. At first I thought it was a large dog. But it wasn’t. It had pointy ears, a strong body and its eyes were bright yellow. It was making sounds which were not typical for dogs – I can’t even imitate them. I couldn’t move, as if I was frozen. The creature stared at me for a while and disappeared into a bush.

Speaker E.

First, I saw them at my friend’s place. The friend was crazy about animals like lizards, snakes and chameleons. There were several terrariums full of them in her flat. To me, the snakes looked scary and a bit disgusting. But the chameleons were amazing. They looked like tiny dinosaurs and they were able to change colour! When they were placed on the sofa, they became brown, on a green notebook – green, and on a checked tablecloth their colouring was absolutely incredible.

Hi, Paul! I’d never expected to come across my old classmate just like that… in the centre of Rome.

Paul:

Emma! Is that you? I haven’t seen you since our farewell school party. What are you doing here? Working? Learning? Or are you just a tourist?

Emma:

Actually, I wanted to find a job here. A friend of mine told me they’ve got a vacancy for a columnist at their journal. But it didn’t work out.

Paul:

What? They don’t need a journalist with a Diploma with Honours?

Emma:

I was too slow. They’ve already given the job to another person.

Paul:

Shame.

Emma:

Never mind. And you? What are you doing here?

Paul:

Teaching English. I work with young learners. My students are 7-8 year old children.

Emma:

It’s fun, isn’t it?

Paul:

Yes.

Emma:

And where do you live?

Paul:

I live in a house which belongs to the family of one of my students. I rent a room there. So I see my students not only in the classroom. They often arrange small parties in the garden and I… have to take part.

Emma:

I see.

Paul:

And where are you staying?

Emma:

In a hotel. I thought about renting a flat, but there’s no need any more as the job is not mine anyway.

Paul:

Look, how about we have one of those famous Italian pizzas somewhere around here? I still have lots of questions to ask you.

Emma:

I don’t mind. But I have to tell you – I don’t like pizza.

Paul:

Unbelievable…

Emma:

But true. Never mind. I’ll have coffee and ice cream instead. I adore their ice cream.

Paul:

Fine. There’s a nice café just across this square. They serve pizzas, sandwiches and chees snacks there. And the choice of ice creams is huge.

Emma:

Ok.

Paul:

And when are you heading back to Britain?

Emma:

Next Monday. I just want to do some sightseeing… as I’m here… and to meet some local people to get to know the country better, not only as a tourist.

Paul:

Right. It may be useful for you in a professional context. I mean your impressions may inspire you to write some article, or report, or whatever…

Emma:

Exactly.

Paul:

Look, how about coming to one of my lessons. You can interview my students. For them it would be additional motivation to learn English. And for you…

Emma:

It’s interesting for me too. I’d be glad to come.

Paul:

Great.




But we should do it either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, ok? My ship sets off very early on Monday.




Are you going by ship?




Yes. I normally go by plane. I definitely prefer it to trains. But this time I want to take a sea voyage to combine business and pleasure and to compensate for my job failure




Oh, come on! It’s not a failure – just an experience…
