    Charles Dickens, a great English writer, was born in 1812, at Portsmouth. His father was a clerk. His mother took care of her children. But Charles didn't live long at Portsmouth. When he was 4 years old, the family moved of Chatham. In this town Charles went to school where he learned to read. The boy liked literature very much. In 1821 the Dickens family came to London. They had very little money and lived a very poor life. Mr. Dickens was in debt and so he found himself in prison. Charles was the oldest out of eight children and he got a job at a factory. His work was very difficult, later he took a job at a lawyer's office and began to write articles for newspapers. Soon he became a reporter. In 1833 Charles Dickens published his first book "Pickwick papers". It became very popular and made him famous. Then many other books came, Charles Dickens died in 1870.


    Чарльз Диккенс, великий английский писатель, родился в 1812 году в Портсмуте. Его отец был клерком. Его мать заботилась о своих детях. Но Чарльз недолго прожил в Портсмуте. Когда ему было 4 года, семья переехала из Чатема. В этом городе Чарльз ходил в школу, где научился читать. Мальчику очень нравилась литература. В 1821 году семья Диккенсов приехала в Лондон.
