A: A very good choice! England is a marvelous country, especially in summer time. What exactly would you like to visit?

B: Well, I would like to spend some time in London and to make some excursions there. I think London is a beautiful city.

A: Oh, yes. You are absolutely right. London is a beautiful city. I can offer you an excursion around the city by bus. You will visit famous historical places and other sights of the city. A walk is included. If you wish you may visit National Gallery or Westminster Abbey. I'm sure you will like them.

B: Oh, that's very exciting indeed. After that I’d like to go to the sea-side to sunbathe and swim.

A: Well, I can offer you to go to Brighton, the most famous resort in England. It is famous for sandy beaches and comfortable rest-homes. There is even a tourist camp if you want to have a walking-tour, to sleep in a tent and to be in the open air.

B: Sounds great! Thank you for your information. I must think it over.
Task 7. Read the dialog once again. Agree or disagree with the following statements.

Travelling by air

A: Hi, Jane. Did you decide where to go on holiday?

B: Hi, Lisa. I think I’ll go to England.

A: Oh, good! Are you going to travel by air?

B: Yes, it is the fastest way of travelling and my favorite means of travelling.

A: Really? Could you tell me a few general rules of travelling by air?

B: Certainly. What are you interested in?

A: When are the passengers requested to arrive at the airport?

B: Two hours before the departure time on international flights.

A: What must the passengers do before the departure?

B: First of all they must register their tickets and luggage.

A: What about the free luggage allowance?

B: It is depends on what class are you flying. So for the economy class it is 20 kg, for the first class passengers it is 30 kg.

A: What if I have an excess luggage?

B: You’ll have to pay extra for excess luggage, I think.

A: What can I take as hand-luggage on board the plane?

B: You may take personal belongings, for example, bags, brief-cases, attaché-cases, umbrellas, coats and souvenirs bought at the duty-free shops at the airport.

A: Is that all?

B: Oh, no! Each passenger is given a boarding pass to be shown at the departure gate and to the stewardess when boarding the plane.

A: And are there any landing formalities?

B: Yes, there are some. First of all, you’ll have to fill in an arrival card, where you write your name, country of residence, current address, the purpose and the length of your visit. And then you will have to go through the passport control and the officers will check your passport and visa.

A: I see, and where can I get my luggage back?

B: In the luggage claim area. When you get your luggage you may go to the Customs.

A: I know there are two corridors at the Customs. Red is for ‘Goods to declare’ and Green is for ‘Nothing to declare’.

B: You are absolutely right.

A: Oh, thank you for your information.

Working day of a businessman

A: Hello Martin!

B: Hello Jack, it’s so nice to see you again. How are you doing?

A: Not bad, thanks, and you? Do you still work for “Forester & Co”?

B: Yes, I do. Our General Manager, Mr. Forester appointed me his deputy. He is a good leader and I learn much from him.

A: What do you actually do?

B: Well, I have a very busy schedule, especially now, when Mr. Forester is out of London. So, I come to the office early in the morning and stay there particularly all day long. As soon as I come I start looking through business mail, newspapers and journals.

A: What do you look through the newspapers and journals for?

B: I am interested in the latest political and business events. I think it is very important to know the latest news. Then I receive visitors, most of them are our company’s customers.

A: Do you receive visitors only in the morning?

B: No, I don’t. I have lunch at 12 o’clock and then I have some more meetings in my job schedule during the day.

A: Do you often meet customers at the office?

B: Well, sometimes I meet with them in the restaurant at dinner time. And very often I discuss business matters on the phone with various trade organizations outside the country.

A: What do you discuss?

B: We discuss different matters relating to prices for different goods, terms of payment, shipment and delivery.

A: Does your company organize any trade exhibitions?

B: Yes, we take part in organizing the trade exhibitions in our country and abroad.

A: Well, you are so busy! And when do you come home?

B: Usually, I finish my work at 6 p.m., but sometimes I have to stay later at night. I’m sorry, Jack, dinner time is over and I really have to go.

A: Yes, certainly. It was nice seeing you. Good-bye, Martin.

B: Good-bye, Jack.

A: Good morning! My name is Mr. Edwards. I’m a representative of “Stone & Sons”. I’ve got an appointment with Mr. Forester.

B: Good morning, Mr. Edwards. Mr. Forester is expecting you. Take a seat, please. He will be in a minute.

C: Good morning, Mr. Edwards. Glad to see you! How are you?

A: Good morning, Mr. Forester. I’m fine, thank you. And you?

C: Very well, thank you. Would you like tea or coffee?

A: Tea please and no sugar. It is very cold today.

C: Brenda, will you bring us a cup of tea without sugar for Mr. Edwards and a cup of coffee for me, please. We will be in a conference room. This way, please Mr. Edwards.
