Exercise 1

Translate these sentences into Russian.

1. There are a few police officers near the car./ 1. Рядом с машиной находится несколько полицейских.

Exercise 2

Translate these sentences into English.

Exercise 3

A police officer is asking information about a missing person. Complete these questions, reading the information of the answers.

1. When did you contact her?

4. Did you see her yesterday?

No, I didn't see her yesterday.

5. What happened to her?

Exercise 4

Translate these word combinations into English.

Translate these sentences into English.

Choose the correct preposition. Translate these sentences into Russian.

1.The University of Law trains lawyers for the country.-- when did the university prepare lawyers for the country? How long has the university been training lawyers for the country?

2. Common Law system applies the doctrine of precedent-- when did the common law system adopt the doctrine of precedent? how long has the precedent doctrine been working?

3. Common Law is the basis of the procedure-- how long will common law be the basis of the procedure? when did common law become the basis of the procedure?

4.I am investigating a computer theft-- when will the case be brought to court? how long have measures been taken to find the stolen computer?

Answer the questions using the time indication words suggested in brackets; change the tense forms accordingly:

  1. In most countriesthere is onlyonly one legal profession.

  2. This means that all lawyershaveroughly the same professional education leading to the same legal qualification.

  3. In England the system is different.

  4. Solicitors and barristers are both qualified lawyers, but they have a different legal training, and once they are qualified they usually do different types of legal work.

  5. This is why it is said that there are two “branches” of the legal profession.

  6. English lawyers are either solicitors or barristers.

  7. They cannot be both at the same time, but it is possible for a solicitor to become a barrister and for a barrister to become a solicitor.
