Раздел 4. Грамматические трудности Уже ясно, что всей английской грамматике я вас не научу. Поговорим о некоторых трудностях, возникающих при переводе тех или иных грамматических форм, которые встречаются в технических текстах. 4.1. Слова с окончанием -ing Оказывается, такие слова могут быть разными частями речи: Иногда это – совершенно самостоятельные существительные: bearing, casing, coupling, ring, spring и т.д. Иногда это – отглагольные существительные: to build строить building здание to house вмещать в себя housing корпус, кожух; картер to open открывать opening отверстие. В этой роли слова с окончанием –ingузнаются довольно легко по их месту в предложении, по наличию артикля (a, anилиthe) и по форме множественного числа: (5) the new seal ring новоекольцосальника; (8) the friction coupling фрикционноесоединение; (13) the gear housing картер зубчатой передачи. Часто мы переводим их прилагательными: distributing ring распределительное кольцо; operating position рабочее положение; lubricating oil смазочное масло. Это вы тоже делаете легко, не задумываясь о происхождении такой формы от глаголов: to distribute распределять; to operate управлять, работать; to lubricate смазывать. 3) А если задуматься, то иногда получаются причастия, которые переводятся на –ущий, -ющий, -ащий, -ящий, -вший: rotating liquid – вращающаяся жидкость; …see following pages – смотри следующие страницы. (19) Оставшаяся рабочая вода выпускается из чаши через 5-6 секунд. (4) Закрепите крышку сепаратора при положении рукоятки вниз (с рукояткой, указывающей вниз). Попробуйте сами перевести предложения 3, 5, 24. 4) Еще такая форма встречается в предложении в составе обстоятельства образа действия (как?) и переводится деепричастием: (2) …tightening the screws firmly – тугозатянуввинты. Навесьте мотор на болты и втолкните его в правильное положение, установив штифты соединительного шкива в отверстия эластичной плиты. (17) …turning it so that… – …повернув его так, чтобы… 5) Но если форма с окончанием -ing выступает в роли заголовка: Assembling Starting; или при ней имеется предлог или слова when, while и т.п., то переводить надо опять существительным, выражающим действие или процесс: (7) Сборка происходит в обратном порядке. (1) Помните об этом, при сборке нескольких машин одновременно. (9) Это положение следует отмечать зарубкой… (13) Перед опробованием сепаратора подайте смазочное масло в картер зубчатой передачи. (15) Соберите чашу без установки малого стопорного кольца и конусного диска. (26) Очистите, и тщательно смажьте перед повторной сборкой. Когда эта форма используется в страдательном залоге, то суть дела все равно не меняется: (17) Перед использованием чаша должна быть размонтирована и собрана… Чувствуете себя «подкованными» или окончательно запута- лись? Поразбирайтесь! Упражнение: Note this when mounting several machines at a time. Fasten the frame ring with collecting cover to the frame, tightening the screws firmly. Press a finger against the rotating collar and count the number of revolutions per minute. Fasten the cover to the separator with the handle pointing downwards. Fit the new seal ring in the guard with the lip pointing to the frame. Consult us or our representative when selecting the motor. Assembling takes place in reverse order. During the running-up period some heat is always generated in the friction coupling. This position should be marked by scoring… Hang the motor on the bolts and push it into the right position, fitting the pins of the coupling pulley into the holes of the elastic plate. Remember this when mounting several machines at the same time. Remember packing C16 when reassembling. Before test-running the separator fill lubricating oil into the gear housing. Before being used the bowl must be dismantled and completed… Assemble the bowl without inserting the small lock ring and the gravity disc. When assembling the bowl body the first time, observe that the three screws C29 in the paring disc device must be unscrewed. Put on the top disc with neck, C10, turning it so that the bore mark on one of the ribs comes right in front of mark in the bowl body. Wipe off the spindle carefully before putting on the bowl body again. Remaining operating water discharges from the bowl in 5-6 seconds. Never run the separator without first fitting it up completely. Thus the pumping hole prevents water from overflowing in the paring chamber and opening the bowl again… Move the top of the bowl spindle around while pressing it outwards, thereby disengaging the buffers DA9 from the ball bearing housing. Do not forget to fill the oil bath after re-fitting the pump adapter. Turn the remaining wheel by rotating the worm wheel shaft, and clean it. Screw out screws E10 for the protecting cover, inserting the wrench through one of the holes in the conveyor pulley. Clean and lubricate carefully before re-fitting. 4.2. Третья форма глагола Следующая трудность – то самое окончание –ed. В роли глагола в Past Indefinite эта форма в инструкциях встречается очень редко. Значит, это – Participle II (см. Раздел 3). В функции определения такая форма может стоять перед определяемым словом, после определяемого слова или входить в состав определительного причастного оборота. А переводится полным или кратким причастием: (1) threaded holes – отверстия с нанесенной резьбой; (2) spacing washers required – требуемыераспорныешайбы; (3) worn pads – изношенные прокладки. (4) Оставьте консистентную смазку нетронутой. (10) Разберите тахометр как описано выше. Упражнение: …screw jack screws into the threaded holes of the conveyor pulley… Any spacing washers required should be cut from sheet metal… Exchange worn pads. Leave the grease untouched. Compare the directions given for assembling the top bearing Insert them with the cut of each ring placed diametrically opposite the cut of the adjacent ring. Dismantle top bearing and bowl as described on page 320-3. Set the hand wheel of indicator 4 to the throughflow desired. Back off set screw U4 in the coupling nut and remove the part of the shearing pin left in the nut. Dismantle the tachometer as described above. The hole diameter, given in millimetres, is stamped on each disc. . Функции инфинитива И снова обратимся к инфинитиву, только не голому, а с частицей to. Отвечает он на вопрос что делать? что сделать? и, вообще говоря, может быть любым членом предложения. Но чаще всего он выполняет функцию обстоятельства цели (зачем?) и дополнения (кого? что?). Рассмотрим обе функции: обстоятельство цели. Предложение часто начинается с инфинитива (1, 3, 6, 11), но он может стоять и в середине предложения (2, 5, 7, 10). дополнение. Инфинитив следует за сказуемым, а само предложение часто бывает безличным (4, 9). Еще может быть инфинитив в пассиве. Тогда он – определение (какой?) (8, 12). (1) Чтобы снизить вибрацию до минимума… (5) Убедитесь, что поверхности трения каретки и втулки чистые, чтобы избежать царапанья. (4) Это позволяет регулировать и даже прекращать подачу полностью… (8) Включите жидкость, которая будет обрабатываться. Упражнение: To reduce the vibrations to a minimum, rubber cushions must be slipped over the anchor bolts immediately below and above each frame foot. Screw on the lower nuts a8 firmly, however not tightly enough to neutralize the elasticity of the rubber cushions. To renew the packing material, unscrew the nuts and push the gland upwards on the pump shaft. This makes it possible to regulate and even shut off the supply entirely by a throttle valve. Check that the friction surfaces of slide and sleeve are clean to avoid scratching. To prevent the bowl body from sticking to the bowl spindle, lubricate the spindle top. Supply water at separating temperature to provide a liquid seal in the bowl. Turn on the liquid to be treated. In most cases it will be practically impossible to establish the sludge content. Be careful not to damage the sealing edge of the sliding bowl bottom. To prevent confusion, the main parts of each bowl are stamped with the same number. The mixture to be treated is conducted from the distributor throgh holes that correspond to the distribution holes in the bowl discs. . Степени сравнения прилагательных и наречий (1, 13) : (1) лучше, более часто; (13) более легкая, более тяжелая. Слово the latter (2, 11, 14) означает последнийи относится к последнему из упомянутых существительных: slide A4 каретка А4 the distributor дистрибьютор (14) hand wheel A12 маховичок А12 Словосочетание in case of (3) означает в случае, under no condition (4) – ни при каких обстоятельствах. В предложениях (4, 5) использованы так называемые независимые причастные обороты: (4) The DE LAVAL pump being of the gear type… – Поскольку DE LAVAL являетсянасосомшестеренчатоготипа… (5) With the ball bearing removed... – Послеснятияшариковогоподшипника… Сложное подлежащее (Complex Subject) (6): Если окажется, что уплотнительное кольцо из нейлона (полиамида), слишком широкое… В предложении (7) глагол tobe выступает в функции модаль- ного глагола: Если сепаратор должен стоять отключенным несколько дней… В предложениях (8, 9, 12) использовано время Present Perfect в действительном и страдательном залоге (это когда что– «успело» произойти или с чем-то «успели» что-то сделать): (8) Никогда не ослабляйте рукоятку, пока чаша не останови– лась (неуспелаостановиться). …that is the sludge has been thrown out of the bowl – тоестьгрязьвыброшена(сравните: имеетбытьвыброшенной). Ну, и наконец, случай с притяжательным падежом существительного (10), который проще всего переводить родительным падежом, ставя существительное в Possessive Case на последнее место: thetool’scentrescrew центральный винт инструмента Упражнение: When the installation is new, it is better to clean more frequently. Knock the slotted pin out of slide A4 and dismantle the latter and spindle A3. In case of emergency a mild steel wire may be used. The DE LAVAL pump being of the gear type, metallic objects, cotton waste, wood chips or the like, must under no condition enter the pump. With the ball bearing removed, the height adjusting ring can be drawn off. If a new seal ring of nylon (polyamide) turns out to be too wide when mounted, this is due to absorbtion of moisture. If the separator is to stand idle for several days with bowl removed apply some grease to the spindle top to prevent rusting. Never loosen the handle until the bowl has stopped. When the bowl has attained full speed (after 4-5 min.), set the valve to 3 and leave it so until water flows out through indicator pipe 6. Detachthe hood by tightening the tool’s centre screw. Screw the tool anti-clockwise into the distributor.Lift out the latter with set of disc. Set control valve to 1 and keep it there until ‘the shot has sounded’, that is the sludge has been thrown out of the bowl. The sludge, or solid impurities, is separated by centrifugal force from the lighter liquid together with small amounts of heavier liquid, as the lighter liquid progresses towards the centre of the bowl. Back off the set screw for hand wheel A12 and pull off the latter with pressure gauge A15 and packing collar A11. . Сложноподчиненные предложения Такие предложения состоят из нескольких. В каждом из них есть свое подлежащее и свое сказуемое. Одно из этих предложений – главное, а к нему с помощью союзов или союзных слов присоединяются придаточные. Вот эти союзы, союзные слова, а также глаголы-сказуемые я и выделила, чтобы помочь вам разбить сложные предложения на простые и переводить их по одному. Многие из этих союзов имеют несколько значений. Я привожу здесь только те, которые подходят по смыслу в данных предложениях. as поскольку as soon as как только either… or… или… или… Этот союз так называемый парный. Его используют не только в сложных, но и в простых предложениях между однородными членами предложения. (4, 6, 8) when когда (5, 10) which который (6) if если instead of вместо того, чтобы such as такой, как until пока; до тех пор, пока whether ли (как говорят в Одессе «или») (11) provided (that) при условии (что) Переводить попробуйте сами. Упражнение: Open the cock entirely, as the filling must be accomplished quickly. This is accomplished as soon as the separator is up to speed… The purpose of separation is either to separate two liquids insoluble in one another… or to remove impurities, mainly solids, from a liquid… Evaporation of water from the bowl may occur when the separation takes place at high temperature. The distributor with set of discs is lifted with tool V3, which should be screwed anti-clockwise into the distributor. If the oil contained in the bowl should be collected instead of being discharged with the sludge when the bowl is emptied, proceed as follows… When the water level reaches the paring disc the pumping hole begins to pump out water through the indicator pipe. Evaporation of water from the bowl, such as may occur when the separation takes place at high temperature, causes the water level to move outward; the pumping pressure then decreases, and more water flows in from the water tank until the pumping pressure equalizes the static head. If the bowl hood does not fit into proper position at once, do not force it down (for instance by screwing on the large lock ring), but examine whether some parts have been wrongly fitted. Centrifugal force divides the mixture flowing in between the discs into a purified lighter component (generally oil) which flows inward along the upper surface of the bowl discs, and a heavier component (generally water and sludge), which moves along the lower surface of the discs in an outward direction to the sludge space. This is possible only provided the motor is not so large that it covers the screws of the bracket. Ну, вот и все… Осталось только Итоговое упражнение II The clarified liquid flows axially upwards and discharges through the bowl outlet. The sludge glides along the bottom face of the discs out into the sludge space, where it is deposited against the bowl wall. It is essential to place the bolts in the base so that they do not press against the edges of the holes in the foundation plate, as they would otherwise prevent resilient mounting of the plate between the rubber cushions. The bowl body is lifted with tool V5, which should be fastened with the three screws. Any spacing washers required should be cut from sheet metal and provided with a radial slot so that they can be pushed over the bolts from the side – see illustration. This position should be marked by scoring if the pulley has to be loosened from the shaft. Screw the two accompanying guide bolts into the upper, opposed screw holes in the frame flange. If the motor is not fastened on the bracket when delivered, place it on the base blocks, fix its position with the guide pins and fasten it with screws. Before being used the bowl must be dismantled and completed, as it is not completely assembled when delivered. Pour oil into the worm gear housing through the hole for the screw plug until the oil level is somewhat above the middle of the oil gauge glass. Do not forget to fill the oil bath after re-fitting the pump adapter. When the bearing is expanded by being heated in oil, the temperature of the oil should not exceed 180 F (80C) and the bearing should not be kept in the bath longer then necessary to bring the entire bearing to the required temperature. Tighten screws C26 into the two threaded holes in operating slide C22 and lift out the latter. Turn the valve handle with its point towards the separator (liquid is fed to the separator). The discs are provided with a notch, which should fit over the corresponding rib of the distributor. Thus the paring disc pumps out all the oil fed to the paring chamber, regardless of the back pressure, up to the maximum pressure that the paring disc can produce. To facilitate removal of the seal ring in the bowl hood and avoid damaging of the ring, place the hood on a wooden stand. As the water acts on a larger diameter, and has generally higher specific gravity, the sliding bottom is pressed against the seal ring “b”, and confines the liquid to be separated to the bowl. |
